Thin Places: Clouds
“Thin Places” are defined as places where the veil between two worlds is thin, where one can experience two different worlds. The term derives from Celtic spirituality to describe where earth and heaven meet, where time and eternity embrace. The moments between sleeping and waking and between life and death are sometimes thought of as Thin Places.
Cloud formations I’ve witnessed in my life gave me the sense of Thin Places—between water and sky, between earth and atmosphere. In a world that often seems awry, clouds give a sense of hope, beckoning us to stop and marvel at their endlessly changing luminous shapes and colors. These paintings are based on my photographs of moments and places that inspired me. Each painting is made with pure pigment oil bars and cold wax medium on gessoed canvas.
